Is olive oil vegan?
Yes, olive oil is plant-based, making it a great option for vegans. It contains no animal-derived ingredients and is suitable for most plant-based diets.
Infused Olive Oils
These incredible products are achieved by a long an intricate process. Fresh herbs and/or spices are added to the olive oil and steeped for four to six weeks in the oil. At regular intervals, the oil is tested to ensure that no bacteria growth or contamination has occurred. We have these done for us and we use pure olive oil (refined olive oil with around 10% of extra virgin olive oil added to it) so the flavor doesn't compete with the infusion. The resultant product is a truly fresh herb/spice flavor that will not dissipate with cooking.
What are Polyphenols?
Known to be anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and an anticoagulant. They help to reduce and neutralize free radicals and repair the damage that have been caused to cell membranes from cigarette smoke, pollution, alcohol, and the sun.
How do I know which olive oils are good?
With regard to good/bad/fake olive oil the best way to know is to do a taste test. I'm sure you've tasted enough by now to recognize certain attributes, if not, buy an assortment at the grocery and compare. Not all extra virgin olive oil tastes the same, just as in wine. And not every customer is going to like the same flavor profiles. What makes olive oil unique, as well as delicious, is the differences in intensity, pepperiness, aroma, fruitiness', time of harvest, country of origin, etc.'
